Happy Winter Solstice (Dongzhi) Festival 2011

Happy Winter Solstice (Dongzhi, 冬至) Festival 2011

Have you guys eaten tangyuan already? I love my mom's specially made tangyuan, plain glutinous rice balls with sweet potato. Yummy.

Malaysians observe the Winter Solstice Festival just like any other Asian countries. Chinese families gather during Dongzhi to pay homage for a good year, and celebrate it by eating tangyuan (湯圓), a traditional  dessert made out of glutinous rice flour stuffed with sesame seeds or red bean paste served along a sweet broth made of sugar and water and seasoned with pandan leaves and ginger.
