FuFu Year in Review 2011 - Part 5
Ecuador (Summer End of Dec 2010 - End of March 2011)
When you come to Ecuador, you have to eat Chaulafan. I assume it's introduced by the Chinese immigrant. Chalafan, 炒腊飯 (Chao La Fan) literally means fried rice with Chinese sausage. One plate will roughly cost you US$1 to US$3, depends the portion and ingredient. Yes, the currency in Ecuador is in American Dollar. Surprisingly, living expenses in Ecuador is relatively low. I spent almost US$5 for three meals daily. I miss the roasted pork sandwich with crispy pork skin very much! :p
Ecuador is a small country (if you compare her with other countries in South America). Due to its unique topography and geographically location, the temperature could vary from 30 °C to 10 °C, from the coast in the south to the north. Quito, the capital city of Ecuador is situated on the equator line. As a typical traveller, of course i wanted to be there. Thus, i hopped on a local bus to Mitad del Mundo. Before that, i had already visited TeleferiQo (ASL : 4100m), took a cable car up to a mountain for the entire view of the metropolitan view of Quito (ASL : 2850m), the second highest capital in the world.
I met a group of Chilean girls, well, we actually were in the same bus heading to Ecuador from Santiago, Chile. Technically, they brought me in to Ecuador, so i followed them to Quayaquil. Oh, we watched Harry Porter in Imax Cinema, because we each had 50% off. Later, i headed up to Cuenca alone and i met the same old British couple who travelled with me from the border to Cuenca at a corner of a street. I was invited to have ice-cream with them. After two nights staying in a lovely colonial town, i headed up to Quito. My friend's brother and sister picked me up at the bus terminal. They brought me back to their house. Lucky enough to be able to stay with a local. The mother cooked me nice dinner, the brother prepared me good breakfast, the youngest brother brought me to a salsa disco. I simply love my travelling life. I was once thinking, what my life would be without travelling. For sure, it will be blanked with a lot of adventurous stories. I truly can't live a life without travelling. So, i had been to the big three cities in Ecuador, the next time i travel to this country again, definitely i would explore its nature part.
p.s. : A full travelogue about Ecuador will be written later.
