The Historical Town of Königstein

FuFu Life in Frankfurt - Part Seventeen
7th April 2010 | Königstein Old Town

Five medical centres, spas as well as health and wellness facilities are located in Königstein, the health resort. With the imposing castle ruins, it attracts thousands of visitors every year for a relaxing walks around the town and the comfortable hikes to the castle. Königstein is also well connected by highways and easy access by bus from a railway station. Well tended parks and its surrounding lush scenery make the town a desirable place to live in Rhine Main Area.

After the tranquil castle, FuFu hiked down to the historical town.

The Luxemburger Schloss (Luxemburger Palace).

The palace was erected in end of 16th century as an office building and summer residence of the prince of Mainz. It was then purchased by a leather merchant and Grand Luke of Luxemburg who used it as a summer residence. Since 1970, the building has been owned by the city and it's now the local court house.

The Kurhaus.

Something caught FuFu eyes!

The tree that grows colourful Easter eggs.

Ops, the Easter duck egg.

The Easter Rooster Egg.

Wow... so cute!

The Easter bunny egg.

Other Easter egg on other plant.

Let's go to kurpark!

Oh... it's nice laying on the grass lawn!

Wow, what a lovely old couple!

Königstein is really a tranquil historical town!

Heading to Rathaus (Town Hall).

Spotted a nice Church. It was closed though!

The newly built town hall.

The old Rathaus.

Like those buildings in the fairy tales!

Besides the town's landmark, the Königstein Castle ruins, other buildings are worth seeing. The old town hall standing right in the centric of the idyllic part of the old town was formerly a fortified gate structure and original access to Königstein castle. Today, it houses the City Museum of Königstein. And the new town that built next to kurpark was erected around end of 20th century, orignally belong to the Luxemburg chateau.

See the ruins of Königstein castle?

FuFu wants to live here!

Walking around the town.

One of the most beautiful pocket parks FuFu has ever seen!

The somebody from Königstein.

Lovely analog clock with notice and advertisement board.

The Villa Andreae.

This small chateau was built in 1891 for the Frankfurt banker Albert Andreae that incorporates features of other well known historical buildings in Frankfurt. It was used as a boarding school from 1957 until it became private property in 1987 and now it serves as a company headquarters. I was sneaking through the residential area just for couples of pictures of it!

It's a very wealthy neighbourhood.

The impoverished Königstein went through an economic revival after a physician discovered the so called Priessnitzbad for water cures. Until now, Königstein has been visited by many celebrities for the famous water spa. Wealthy family from Frankfurt came regularly to spend the summer vacation so that the city's appearance was enriched by many splendid summer villas/bungalows.

Each bungalow has a huge garden!

And also luxurious cars in front of the villas!

Back to the downtown.

The shopping street.

The coffee house of the Rathaus.

The shopping street in old town of Königstein.

Quiet and peaceful.

Clean and neat.

Walking back to the old town hall.

Missed the bus, gotta wait for 20mins!

Spotted some nice restaurant on the other side of the town.

It's time to go back to the bus station.

The bus came, finally! (sharp at 630pm).

Took this train to Höchst then regional train and subway back home.

Wow, Germany is quite similar to Britain!
The "Deer" pub sign is also very British.
It's indeed the second most popular pub names in Britain, after the "Lion"!

Those Tudor-style buildings are also very British.

Ha ha... Germany is just like Japan. They like to copy others? Ha ha??

This is a cool and calm place to spend my retirement age. I can see some old folks in your pictures :)

The green and gold signboards with italic fonts are really attractive!!! The Easter eggs tree looks like a nest to me :) Agree with fu...the eggs are CUTE & COLORFUL!!! Simple artwork but really attractive.

Nice pictures! My favourties are:
1) Pot of red flower next to the window
2) The reflection on the pocket parks

Cheers!
