FuFu Travel - Dimsum & Guangzhou, China
Sunday - 28 . December . 2008

I looked damn sleepy, not enough crash actually.

Sum looked tired as well.

Jodie looked so fresh, the mask she used must be good!

The Macau Street Restaurant (澳門街).

It's always good to be the member to enjoy the offers.

Eating is the first necessity of people. Guangzhou, is a nation of obsessive gourmands, also known as an excellent place to eat, exemplified by the 'Eat in Guangzhou' (吃在廣州) which means while travelling in China you should eat in Guangzhou as it is renowned for Cantonese cuisine.

The famous Kungfu tea (功夫茶).

Yumcha (飲茶), the custom of eating dimsum while sipping Chinese tea yet is another integral part of the culinary culture of Guangdong Province, Hongkong and Macao. Hence, we went for yumcha at a typical dimsum restaurant for a traditional eating culture with strong local flavour.

Potsticker (鍋貼) and turnip/radish cake (蘿蔔糕) .

Shrimp dumpling (蝦餃).

Duck egg and pork porridge (皮蛋瘦肉粥).

Spare ribs (排骨).

Barbecued pork buns (叉燒包).

Sweet cream buns with milk custard filling (奶皇包).

Huu huu, what a great first meal of the day.

We had finished everything! It's time to move.

Our first destination of the day was Yuexiu Park (越秀公園), the largest comprehensive sightseeing park in downtown Guangzhou. There are verdant grasses and trees, birds' singing, and fragrant flowers all through the year.

The renowned Yuexiu Park.

The confusing map of the park.

Besides the splendid natural wonders in Yuexiu Park, there have many famous scenic sites of different historical period successfully decorating the park, such as the well-known Statue of the Five Rams, Zhenhai Tower, Zhongshan Monument, the Ancient City Wall of the Ming Dynasty, and Sifang Emplacement. Make sure to visit the Korean Friendship Pavillion and its garden near the boat rental area.

A old Korean-styled building at the Korean Friendship Pavilion.

One of the entrance to the Korean Friendship Pavilion.

It's an 'environmental protection' park.

Always behind them as i was taking pictures.

It was good to have a morning walk in Yuexiu.

We walked to the old Guangzhou TV Tower though not our target.

We were lost actually, the park was way too big for us.

Yo, it's Zhenhai Tower (鎮海樓).

The three of us posed in front of the building.

Zhenhai Tower (鎮海樓), better known among the locals as the five-story tower, is one of the landmarks of Guangzhou. The tower has been destroyed and set up five times over the past 600 years. Now it is the Guangzhou Museum (廣州博物館), housing relics and documents showing Guangzhou's history over 2000 years.

The Guangzhou Museum.

The Zhenhai Tower board.

Their faces told me they need to rest for a while.

No wasting any second, set the timer and we posed for pictures.

Like this shot very much!

The three of us again.

Jodie : You guys look so gayish. (I dont think so.)

Jodie wished to sit longer.

It's drizzling, so we stayed longer at the tower.

And we found an old bus exhibited beside it.

The 101 route could bring us back to the hotel.

The driver seat was so badly damaged.

They were awaiting for the picture of three of us.

We were like old collegemates!

We are looking for the journey belongs to us. When can we alight?

Each of us would anyhow get to alight to our destination.

The symbol of Guangzhou - must not be missed.

The Sculpture of Five Rams (五羊石像), is one of the most famous structures in Guangzhou. This sculpture is seen as a symbol of Guangzhou due to an ancient legend more than 2,000 years ago. This legend tells of five immortals in five-color garments came riding on five rams, each carrying a stem of rice. They presented it to the people, and it was taken as a sign from heaven that the city will always be free from famine. The rams turned into stone and the city of Guangzhou became a rich and populous place. Therefore, Guangzhou got the name of the City of Rams or Goat City.

Could you spot out the five rams?

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the five-ram sculpture..."

FuFu acted like not a tourist. Shut up, he is a traveller.

This guy has a lovely posing style!

Look at the guy behind me!

After visiting the five rams, we followed the sign until we saw Zhongshan Monument (中山紀念碑). It was designed by the reputable Chinese architect Lu Yanzhi (吕彦直) and built in order to commemorate the contributions of Sun Zhongshan (孫中山).

To reach the monument, you need to walked up the 100 stairs.

The observation deck of the monument was closed.

The view of the park from this open area was not bad though.

Nowadays, due to its long-running changes, Yuexiu Park has become the substitute name for Guangzhou. If you want to travel around Guangzhou, Yue Xiu Park is a good place for you to know about the city - both today and yesterday. This antique park still attracts many local people to have morning walks, sports and rests.

Yanhui Restaurant (宴會酒樓).

Due to the cold weather, we got hungry very fast though we had our breakfast late. We gave up exploring the park more, instead we took cab to a dimsum restaurant for our late yumcha.

A typical set of eating utensils for yumcha.

Bear in mind that yumcha is served until 3pm.

Potsticker (鍋貼).

Salty Pastry (鹹水角).

Spring rolls (春捲).

Lotus paste bun (蓮蓉包).

Lotus leaf rice/lo mai gai (糯米雞).

Chicken soup (雞雑湯).

Steamed meatball (牛肉球).

Egg tart (蛋撻).

After that we were back to Shamian Islet.

We took the ferry to Zhongda.

It's clean, neat and spacious but i wish there's more chairs.

It's a nice cruise trip!

It's freezing but still cool!

It's windy but great to see those modern architecture.

You would see old Western-styled buildings along the Pearl River.

And also the 5-star hotels and office towers.

The luxurious condominiums too line up along the Pearl River.

After a quarter, we alight the ferry and in front of us was Sun Yat-Sen University (中山大學), a prominent university in the southern part of China and Top 10 university in China.

The main gate of Sun Yat-sen University.

It's a national top 10 university.

Three of the so called educated persons stand in front of the gate.

Sum needed to have dinner with his family and relatives from Australia, so both FuFu and Jodie went to a shopping mall for dinner once Sum had left to Panyu. We had an awful dinner by the way. Don't feel like mention about the dinner of the day here. I could only explain the meal by a word - REGRET. Guess only Jodie know it!

China Plaza (中華廣場).

The main entrance is so gorgeously decorated for 2009.

The interior of the mall.

Everyone could buy Thai durians anytime now.

Generally tropical fruits can be found easily in the big cities.

FuFu with the charity set in front of the booth.

Wastons has a booth in the ground floor of the mall to raise money setting up a better education environment for the kids in the rural area of mainland China. It's only RMB 10 (US$1.5) for a Watsons 2009 calender and 12 postcards that tell the real situation of the students in mainland China. RMB 5 from each sale will go to the charity. It's only RMB 10 and we could do charity. It real made our day.

Jodie smiled happily as she did something meaningful.

Here are the nice postcards and 2009 calender.

It started to rain right after we were back to hotel.

Not ready for shower yet without taking the last photo of the day.
